Back Again

So I have taken several breaks from blogging only to come back for awhile and then not post for several months again.  Now that we have moved to Western Kansas, and I have several people, including my mom, that aren't on facebook that we want to keep up with, I decided maybe I should post to my blog again.  So here is the first of hopefully a continues stream of Hayes Happenings.

2 Months

Friday Cooper had his 2 month check up. Everything was good! He didn't cry much with his shots. That made me feel better since I had to hold his leg while the nurse did them. :( He weighed in at 16 lbs 5 oz. & 24 3/4 inches long! He's as big boy! I thought the girls were big at 14 lbs! These 2 months went so fast! I hope the next few slow down!

Making Music

Monday evening we went over to Jon & Cheryl's because we didn't make it back to Holyrood until late Sunday & they wanted to see the girls in their Halloween costumes. I didn't know it was Jon's birthday that day! We got to eat ice cream cake & Jon played several of his instruments with the girls! They also have a new bird that they let fly around the house. The girls didn't like it out of the cage cause it landed on people's heads! We had a good evening visiting friends! The girls didn't want to leave!

State Fair

On the opening day of the fair, Sept. 10th, Cooper went to his first fair at 6 days old.

This one little goat kept getting out and people had to put him back in. Scott helped in back in once only for him to be back out before we were five feet away!

The only ride ridden by any of us was the giant slide. Scott and Cheryl went down it twice! Cheryl loved it!

Work

I started back to work on Tuesday. I am taking Cooper with me as long as I can. I have turned my office into a room fit for a baby! Glad I have the room to do it. Since I have just about completed my first week back, I think it went pretty well. I hope I am able to bring him for awhile. This way I still get to enjoy the baby stage! I am thankful I have a job where I can have the best of both worlds. I guess I am definatly a working mother!

Dr. Appt

I had my six week check up today & had to make an appointment for Cheryl cause she has had a cough for a couple weeks now & Cooper cause he's getting congested. Cheryl weighed 38 lbs. & has a sinus infection. We got meds for her. Cooper weighed 14 lbs. 6 oz! We knew he was getting big but not that big! He has a cold & she told me to use a saline solution on his nose. My appointment went well. Although I didn't realize I was going to get a shot today! They updated my tetnus shot! My arm is a little sore! At least I got it in my left arm so I can still use my right one fully! I have a heavy baby to carry! Here's a picture while we were waiting on the dr!

Stroll

Our walks are a little different with me & the kids. The girls have to take turns riding! Cheyenne pushes a little straighter & faster than Cheryl.

10 Year Class Reunion

Friday night my class got together for our 10 year reunion. Some of us met in the park to visit, then we went to the last QH homecoming game & went to the bar after. I forgot my camera but here are a few pictures I took with my phone at the bar. It was fun seeing everyone again & catching up.

The Birth Story

On September 3rd I had a doctor appointment and I was only dialated to about 2 3/4. My doctor said we could induce if I wanted to. I really didn't want to but Scott had 3 weeks off and we were already 10 days into it and wanted to be able to have him home for awhile. She stripped my membranes again and I went to the QH football game Friday night hoping that I'd start on my own and not have to be induced Saturday morning. No such luck. Saturday morning we dropped the girls off at mom and dad's and headed to McPherson. I think about 9:00 they started the pitocin. I was progressing rather slowly. I walked the halls hoping that would help. I was the only in the OB ward so I could walk a lot without bothering people or people bothering me! It helped a little but not a whole lot. My doctor said she could break my water and it would probably go quickly. I knew it would if she broke my water but it also means more pain. I was only at a 3 and since I don't do pain meds I thought that would be painful for a long time to get to a 10. I opted to wait until about 5 or 6 centimenters. My mom and Staci showed up with the girls in the afternoon sometime. I don't remember the time. You'd think I would because the clock was right in front of the bed. I don't know why they do that, it makes every minute go by so slow! My contractions were getting stronger so mom took the girls out in the waiting room. Staci stayed there with Scott to help me get through the contractions. About 5:00 I was checked and was between a 5 & 6 so she broke my water. That did it! They made predictions on how long it would take before he was here, Dr. Overholt said 6:15, nurse said 6:45 (nurse shift change at 7!) and Scott said 7:15. Well, Overholt was right! After only 11 minutes of pushing, Cooper graced us with his presence at 6:11 pm. What a handsome little boy we had!

We were so glad to have a healthy baby boy! Our family was now complete.

When my mom, Staci, Cheyenne and Cheryl came back in the room they were all excited! The girls just love him to pieces! Mom finally got a grandchild with dark hair! She always said she had 4 children and 2 grandchildren and none of them had dark hair or dark eyes like her. She can't say that anymore! Cooper has pretty much black hair just like Scott!

Since Cooper was healthy and everything went well, I had my tubes tied on Sunday morning. Scott and I knew this was good for our family but it was still hard to know that I wouldn't be pregnant or have a little baby ever again. That's why I am probably spoiling Cooper by holding him more than I did the girls. I just want to enjoy every minute.

Zoo

This past weekend was half price admission and $1 hamburgers at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure. The girls and I went to church in Ellsworth with Mom and Staci and then headed to the zoo. We decided to eat before we got too far into the zoo. Cheyenne was ready to just see the animals but we got her to sit long enough to eat a hamburger. They were good hamburgers for $1! We had a lot of fun. My mom's cousin and her daughter work at Rolling Hills and were working that day so we got to spend some time with them as well.

There weren't any animals in this exhibit but the girls liked crawling through the tunnel and poking their heads up into the window.

They had a giraffe feeding station! It was only open until 2:00 so we hurried to get over there. Cheyenne thought she wanted to feed the giraffes but they when it came down to getting close to them she didn't want to. Cheryl let Staci hold her and feed him and then wanted to do it again! The giraffes stuck out their tongues wanting the branches.

This may not be appropriate but I HAVE to tell this story! These 2 giraffes were always together. They are all males. They came over to the feeding station but didn't really want to be fed. They were very playful. (I have a video I will post on another post.) Cheyenne was watching them. And all of a sudden says, "Mommy, what's that coming out of his belly?" I looked and guess what I saw?! You can see it in this picture if you look close. "Mommy, what is that?" Yes, I think she said it as loud as she could and kept repeating it! I couldn't help but laugh. My mom said, "I think we better go!" Cheyenne was too intrigued! I explained to her that that was a boy giraffe! We finally got her to move on and she didn't ask anymore, thank goodness!

Next was the Rhinos, 2 of them were inside. Gail and Erin (mom's cousin and her daughter) caught up with us at the Rhino exhibit, which is Gail's favorite. This one was eating but the other one was playing with a smashed trash can. Erin warned us that he likes to "mark his territory". As we were looking at him, he turned and raised his tail! I grabbed the girls, who were right next to the rails, and moved out of the way pretty quickly. Then he kept turning towards us! He never sprayed but we got out of the building completely pretty quickly!

Cheyenne waited all day to see the lion! We passed him the first time in our rush to feed the giraffes. Then she told us where we needed to go according to her map to get back to him.

We left the zoo about 4:00 and Cheryl was pooped. We were going to go into Salina to do some shopping and Cheryl fell asleep before we were too far on interstate. Chey was cold so she shared her blanket with her sleeping sister!

We all had a good time and the weather was cooler and it even sprinkled a little bit, which made it even better. It was very enjoyable day! Thanks Mom!

Jack & the Beanstalk

Friday the HRC took a bus trip to the Wichita Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre to see a kids show of Jack and the Beanstalk. I decided to take Cheyenne along with me. The bus left Hoisington at 8:30 in the morning and got to Wichita shortly after 11. She did very well on the bus. We do utilize the schools charter bus so it is a little more comfortable and we watched movies so that kept the kids entertained. At the Dinner Theatre, they had a buffet of applesauce, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, french fries and a cookie.

When we first got there we stopped by the bathrooms. Cheyenne wanted her picture taken by the tree with the lights on it.

Some of the people that traveled with us. There was a fox that was entertaining kids until the show started. Cheyenne wasn't very fond of him though. I think the fox is dancing on stage but you can't see him because the stage lights weren't on. These people were sitting right next to the stage! The kids loved it!

Doctor

After having a fever on Monday and Tuesday, Cheyenne was feeling better. That is until Sunday. When I got her dressed that morning she said I hurt her ear when I put her shirt on. I didn't think a whole lot about it. Her and Cheryl spent the afternoon at my parents' while Scott and I went out to eat. When we went to pick them up around 3:30, they were still asleep but Mom said Cheyenne had a fever again. We went home and she just got worse. We decided we better get her into the doctor on Monday. I was guessing she had an ear infection. Our usual doctor was booked yesterday so we saw another doctor at the same clinic. Chey of course didn't have a fever when we went to the doctor but when she looked in her ear she said it was not red. She has swimmer's ear. What? We've only been swimming once and she doesn't go underwater much so I don't know how she got it. Maybe in the shower? They have a little blow up pool but haven't swam it a whole lot either. And she doesn't put her head under hardly at all. I don't know. Anyway, we got a prescription for ear drops we have to put in her ear 4 times a day for 7-10 days. She didn't like it at first but then she was asking for them later in the evening because they made her ear feel better. They say the fever isn't associated with the swimmer's ear it may just be another virus. So if it comes back, which it did last night, just give her Tylenol. We'll keep an eye on that and see if we need to go back. Hopefully we're on the mend. We've got to be, school will be starting soon!
